Deidra Towns touts work for mystery non-profit

From tomorrow’s City Hall News, by Chris Bragg:
As she runs for the Brooklyn Assembly seat previously held by her brother, Deidra Towns is touting her work as executive director of a non-profit called the Versie B. Towns Foundation.
But what exactly that entails remains unclear, since little public record of its work exists.
The IRS has no record of any tax return from the foundation since it was incorporated in 1997, and revoked its tax-exempt status in June. The non-profit appears to have never registered or filed an annual statement with the New York attorney general’s office. And Towns’ campaign refused to provide information about the foundation’s funding sources, its expenditures or how much Towns was paid for her work.
…
Towns is in the midst of a heated three-way special election that also includes Rafael Espinal, the chief of staff for Councilman Erik Martin Dilan, and Jesus Gonzalez, an organizer for Make the Road New York. The race is seen as a power struggle between the Towns family, Brooklyn Democratic Leader Vito Lopez and the Working Families Party, which are all backing different candidates.
